Magazine Schools was honored today to help celebrate the military service of Magazine native E.O. "June" Roberts, Jr., who, at 103 years old, is Logan County's oldest living veteran.
During a special ceremony, Roberts, who served in World War II and is a former POW, was presented a commemorative plaque from Kathy Mott and members of the Logan County Veterans Walk Board that recognizes his service to our country.
Also, as part of this celebration, Magazine Schools Federal Programs/Curriculum Coordinator and District Military Family Liaison Karen Gipson organized a thank-you card/thank-you letter-writing campaign in the kindergarten classes, the fifth-grade social studies classes and high school social studies classes and Beta Club to thank Roberts for his service.
These cards and letters were presented to Roberts, who is the father-in-law of retired Magazine Elementary Principal Rebekah Roberts, during today's ceremony, which featured guest speaker State Representative Jon Eubanks.
Magazine Schools was the first school district in Logan County to be awarded the Purple Star School District designation for our major commitment to serving students and families connected to our nation’s armed forces.
