Rattler Family, Magazine Schools is proud to honor and celebrate Lance Corporal Virgil Wells, a 1968 graduate of J.D. Leftwich (Magazine) High School, who as been named the 2026 Logan County Veteran of the Year. A decorated United States Marine Corps combat veteran and two-time Purple Heart recipient, he answered our nation's call with extraordinary courage and unwavering dedication during the Vietnam War. His service, sacrifice and commitment to his fellow Marines exemplify the very best of our community and our country. He, along with all of the 2026 Logan County Veteran of the Year nominees, will be honored and recognized during Independence Daze in Booneville on Saturday, July 4, at 8:30 p.m. Together, we will celebrate the brave men and women whose service has preserved the freedoms we cherish. Thank you, Lance Corporal Wells, for your selfless service, remarkable sacrifice and enduring legacy. Your courage continues to inspire generations of Rattlers and our entire community. Rattler Family, here's a reminder that for student-athletes, the Arkansas Activities Association "Dead Period", a two-week period during which coaches (licensed teacher coaches and registered volunteers) are prohibited from engaging in any type of activity involving student-athletes whether it be practice, training, weight lifting, competition or travel and school athletic facilities are closed to student-athletes, will begin on Sunday (June 21) and end on Saturday, July 4.
